The Confession of SDGossipScene

Thank you all for your support and criticism. Over the couple of weeks I’ve had much time to reflect on the future of SDGossipScene. There was one realization for sure — SDGossipScene wasn’t making ANY MONEY!! I felt the investment in photographers wasn’t worth keeping a penniless blog running. It’s just bad business.

With that, I am excited to announce that SDGossipScene is currently consulting with WebitMD – San Diego Internet Marketing to develop SDGossipScene the nightlife entertainment guide.Ta-da! The new SDGossipScene will still provide all of it’s original features, along with a new exciting one that will help businesses promote in a new way.

My last words…

It blows my mind that in six months SDGossipScene has reached 5,000 unique visitors a month (with no promotion). The responses that I have received truly kept me positive that I was on the right track to something amazing. I’ll admit it. I’m the type of girl who has an idea and just does it without fully thinking it out. This scandal has made me look at SDGossipScene in a new light and be able to take the site to the next level.

Ben DeCamp might regret the day he made SDGossipScene start over, because I will never hire him to do any photography for me.

I’ll say this much. Most people say, “If I knew then what I know now; my life would be completely different.” That’s how I feel about the future of SDGossipScene. I get to start over. I’m starting over with more passion and determination than I’ve ever had before. For most of those who don’t know me, that’s a scary thing.

What should you do in the mean time?

- Keep your love/hate comments coming! They make a great read.

- Follow me on Twitter @SDGossipScene for development updates.

Always remember this:

Voyeur on Thursdays, U-31 on Fridays, El Dorado on Saturdays, and if you’re really sceney, Super El Camino on Tuesdays.

Over-and-out,

SDGossipScene Vs. TheStyleSkank

February 1st, 2010

Ben DeCamp has it out for SDGossipScene creator Felicia!

Over the weekend Ben DeCamp emailed club photographers, Jeff Corrigan, Jeff Morris, Tommy McAdams, James Norton and Tim King, asking them to disallow photo usage on SDGossipScene.com. All photographers (with exception of James Norton) emailed SDGossipScene on January 28 and 29, asking to please stop usage of their photos due to it conflicting with their photography. Norton contacted SDGossipScene in reference to the photographers stating, “I don’t know anything about it. Everyone keeps telling me to email you and say you can’t use my pictures. I have no problems with your site. It’s great. Everyone just seems to take everything too serious.”

Felicia has reasons to believe this is a personal attack from Ben DeCamp. The two had a fight after Felicia’s trip to LA to talk to producers about a possible SDGossipScene reality show. Felicia mentioned Ben DeCamp as a possible cast member of the show, because of  his life as The Style Shark. Producers were intrigued  with The Style Shark, and compared him to The Cobra Snake. After being educated on Cobra Snake, Felicia wrote on Ben’s Facebook wall saying, “Have you ever heard of TheCobraSnake? I bet you didn’t know he was your inspiration.” Ben sent Felicia an email stating:

are you trying to be sarcastic with that cobra snake comment?

NO! I swear. There is a guy called The Cobra snake and he does exactly what you do, but all over the US.

either you’re trying to fuck with me or you have no clue that he’s been doing it for 8 years in LA with Steve Aoki
Felicia Canales January 17 at 10:45am
I really had no idea. Someone told me about him over the weekend. haha, you mad?

In the future when you use my photos, please use hyperlinks to my home page. You’re getting imagery for free, Perez pays tens of thousands of dollars for an image. Do not refer to me as “paparazzi” or that my friends or anyone depicted in my photos uses date rape drugs, or any kind of drugs. That’s slander, and not funny at all; if I was Jorge Luna or Matt Stanton, I’d have already taken you to court. This is a serious business for me, the other photographers, the DJ’s, and the bar owners.
A lot of people talk behind your back, but I’m not like that. I’m telling you right now you are not going to fuck this up for me. You have a good tool in place to do something positive for the scene; hopefully you come around before everyone alienates you.

Ben

Felicia Canales January 17 at 12:50pm
Sure, I’ll start hyperlinking your photos. Sorry about that. I don’t mean to use the word “paparazzi” to less credit you as a photographer. I use the term to mimic tabloids. As for slander goes, there is a difference in saying: “he’s high” and “he appears to be high”.          Also, writing about date rape, then going against it, isn’t slander.

It’s legal for me to write my opinion.

I am very carful on how I use my words, to protect myself on slander lawsuits. My attentions are not to “Fuck things up for you”. Sorry if you feel that way. I respect your business; therefore, your request for hyperlink and not referring to you as paparazzi, will be granted. I hope you still have friendly thoughts towards me, and not just think of me as a “gossip bitch”. I agree with site being a good tool for San Diego, which is why I started it, but I hope it doesn’t leave you with ill feelings towards me.

Felicia

PS
Sorry about The Cobra Snake remark. I honestly had no idea.

After this email, SDGossipScene discontinued using Ben’s photos. SDGossipScene felt it was better business to leave TheStyleShark out of the blog. Ten-days later, Felicia received another email from Ben saying:

Ben DeCamp January 28 at 6:42pm  Report
Hey I can’t have my photos published on your website anymore; I’m getting a lot of complaints from the scenester girls I photograph and it’s conflicting with my brand. Hope you understand.

Thanks,
Ben

Felicia Canales January 28 at 8:16pm
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve stopped using your photos 2 week ago due to our last Email. So, problem solved. See you later.

Felicia

SDGossipScene is more than understanding when it comes to respecting other’s requests; but we find it mind boggling that photographers, who all supported SDGossipScene, would pull-out all at the same time.

Without club-photography, you can’t be seen.

SDGossipScene is currently on pause until other actions can be taken.

Note to club owners/promoters:Club promoters/owners can release club photos to SDGossipScene since they pay the photographer for club photos.

Scenestar couple, Dan Merino and Melissa Moorcroft, were featured in DiscoverSD: Local Couples Spotlight. The steamy couple opened-up to DiscoverSD about everything from Dan’s lame jokes, to how they first met. Melissa unleashed a dark-secret about the couple’s past saying:

We met in the summer of ‘09 through my boyfriend at the time, they were best friends. He was cheating on me and Dan thought I deserved to know and deserved better. He informed me although he knew that he would be risking ruining the relationship with his friend (which it did). I dumped the guy and Dan became my shoulder to cry on and my comfort. We became best friends and feelings quickly developed. We secretly spent every day together. We had to keep it undercover because of the sensitivity of the situation but eventually we let the cat outta the bag and now I have the most amazing boyfriend EVER!

Juicy indeed!

What can I say? The girl has a great sense of humor. :)

After a scandalous photo leaked out of Taylor Doms over the weekend, the socialite decided to use the photo to her advantage by turning it into her new advertising campaign for TheMixster.com

Very clever and funny Doms.

We love!

We’re curious on what you’re going to mix-up next.
